In 2022, we saw an increase in the use of the RTDS Simulator for HVDC and FACTS schemes.

In our latest case study (http://ow.ly/U96W50MaXNR), we spotlight The Johan Sverdrup Project, the WORLD'S FIRST multi-vendor HVDC scheme feeding an islanded offshore AC grid.

Here are three interesting tidbits from the case study

1. RTE International lent their expertise as third-party consultants for this multi-vendor project. They operate a world-class simulation lab for HIL testing of HVDC controls.

2. Experts used the RTDS Simulator to test control replicas from both vendors and a replica of the Power System Management (PMS) coordinated parallel operation of the two links.

3. HIL testing led to modifications in both the HVDC and PMS controls, de-risking and improving the overall operation of the Johan Sverdrup Project.
